Université Assane Seck de Ziguinchor : le SAES décrète un boycott des enseignements du second semestre.
Tensions are rising at Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor (UASZ). The Autonomous Union of Higher Education (SAES) has decided to escalate its conflict with the university administration by announcing a boycott of second semester classes.
This decision comes after the expiration of the ultimatum given to university authorities for the payment of sums owed to staff. Believing that their demands have not received a satisfactory response, the teaching and research staff, united within the SAES coordination committee, have called for a 48-hour, renewable, strike starting Monday, June 15.
Through this action, the union intends to increase pressure on the administration to obtain full payment of the debts claimed by the staff concerned. SAES officials maintain that the resumption of classes remains contingent upon the actual payment of all outstanding amounts.
This latest escalation in relations between the union and the administration risks having significant repercussions on the university's academic calendar. Students could see the normal course of the second semester disrupted if no solution is found in the coming days.
Pending a possible outcome to the negotiations, the SAES maintains its position and calls on its members to strictly respect the boycott order until their demands are met.
