ONU : un Sénégalais réélu au Comité des droits de l’homme
Senegal strengthens its presence within the United Nations multilateral system with the re-election of Bacre Waly Ndiaye to the United Nations Human Rights Committee for the 2027-2030 term.
The vote took place on June 15, 2026 in New York, during the 42nd Meeting of States Parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, an event during which the members of the Committee are regularly renewed.
This election confirms the international recognition of the skills and expertise of the Senegalese representative in the field of promoting and protecting fundamental rights. It also reflects the renewed confidence of States Parties in his contribution to the work of the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
In a statement, the Government of Senegal welcomed this result, stressing that it is a sign of confidence in Senegalese diplomacy and its constant commitment to respect for human rights, the rule of law and multilateralism.
The authorities also thanked the States that supported the Senegalese candidacy, considering that this support reflects Senegal's place within international bodies as well as its active contribution to human rights protection mechanisms.
According to Dakar, this re-election contributes to strengthening African representation within UN treaty bodies and will allow efforts to continue to ensure the effective application of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, in compliance with the principles of universality and non-discrimination.
Senegal has finally reaffirmed its commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter and its lasting dedication to the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide.
