Tentative de corruption d'un juge : le marabout libéré, l'homme d'affaires reste en prison
According to information from Libération, the Dakar Court of Appeal has granted provisional release to businessman Cheikh Guèye and marabout Hady Sy. The two men had been sentenced last April to two years in prison, including six months of actual imprisonment, for criminal conspiracy and attempted bribery of Judge El Hadji Maguette Thiam, then head of the 2nd chamber of the Pikine-Guédiawaye court.
However, this measure did not have the same effect on both convicts. While the marabout Hady Sy was indeed released, Cheikh Guèye remained in detention. The newspaper specifies that the electronic monitoring order the businessman had been placed under in the attempted bribery case was revoked.
Cheikh Guèye's legal situation has become even more complicated. According to the same source, he has been remanded in custody again for criminal conspiracy, forgery and use of forged authentic public documents and administrative documents, fraud involving public funds, fraud, and money laundering.
