Alassane Ouattara à l’OMC : La Côte d’Ivoire est « entourée de pays qui ont des difficultés… »
Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara is "sorry" about the wars and terrorism in Africa.
While participating yesterday, Thursday, in the Presidential Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the leader clearly indicated that he was very sad to see some countries on the continent gripped by armed conflict and terrorism.
"What saddens me most at the moment is above all the problem of the wars that we are experiencing, for example, in West Africa, in the Sahel, (but also) in Sudan, Ethiopia, Congo etc. That is the most difficult question," said Alassane Ouattara.
"Most major powers think only of their own interests."
He believes that Africans cannot solve this problem alone. In his view, the support of major powers will be necessary.
“We need a mobilization of the major powers to try to find solutions. And I believe that, currently, this is not the case. Most of the major powers are thinking of their own interests. Which I understand, because they also have populations and of course we must try to comply with what democracy and universal suffrage require of us; but clearly, this fight must be led not only by African countries but also with international support,” the Ivorian leader declared.

Terrorism and extreme poverty
For him, security challenges in Africa, particularly in the Sahel, are a subject of personal concern, because "Ivory Coast has good (economic) performance, but (it is) surrounded by countries that still have difficulties, whether it be the problem of terrorism or problems of extreme poverty."
