CBAO : le curieux retrait de 120 millions FCFA
A curious case has arisen at the CBAO branch on Avenue Lamine Guèye. A customer, SM Fall, is demanding the reimbursement of 120 million CFA francs withdrawn from his account without his knowledge. L'Observateur reveals that the victim has decided to file a complaint directly with the Dakar prosecutor's office, rejecting the bank's suggestion to press charges against persons unknown.
The circumstances surrounding this withdrawal remain a complete mystery. Alerted to the disappearance of the funds, even though "he had not signed any withdrawal order," the client was told by his account manager that his account had been hacked—a hypothesis that remains to be verified. When contacted by L'Observateur, the head of the branch in question declined to comment, referring the newspaper to the bank's legal department.
The same source reports that CBAO has launched an internal audit "to determine whether this is a major technical failure, a cyberattack or yet another internal embezzlement", especially after the series of financial scandals that have recently tarnished other agencies of the institution, notably in Tivaouane where a hole of more than 282 million led to the arrest of an employee.
