Vélingara : un réseau de voleurs de chevaux démantelé, deux suspects gambiens déférés à Kolda
The Vélingara territorial gendarmerie brigade has dismantled a suspected horse-stealing ring operating in border villages between Senegal and The Gambia. Two Gambian nationals were arrested in the Foulbé neighborhood of Vélingara, in possession of two mares. Two of their suspected accomplices are on the run and actively being sought.
At the conclusion of their investigation, the gendarmes apprehended B. DIALLO and MS DIALLO, both Gambian nationals. The two men were arrested in the Foulbé district of Vélingara while in possession of two mares.
The investigation revealed that the two suspects were not acting alone. They had accomplices based in Senegal who helped them sell the proceeds of their thefts. This division of roles between the perpetrators, Senegalese and Gambian, and the receivers of stolen goods allowed investigators to identify a veritable network operating on both sides of the border.
Two members of the network managed to escape. They are actively being sought by the police.
On Monday, October 26, 2026, the gendarmes brought two of the criminals before the court in Kolda.
