Afrique du Sud : Le président Ramaphosa réagit au décès du footballeur Jayden Adam
South African football is in mourning. The body of Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams was found on Saturday, July 11, on a property on Military Road in Cape Town. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the 25-year-old player.
"Refrain from all speculation!"
South African Sports Minister Gayton McKensie took to his digital channels to call on "the media and the public to show restraint and compassion and refrain from any speculation in order to allow the family of the deceased and his club Mamelodi Sundowns the space and privacy they need during this incredibly difficult time."
Touched by the tragedy, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa wanted to pay tribute to the young footballer, but also to rugby player Leqobo Makwedini, who died yesterday Friday July 10 of a cardiac arrest after a training session with his club, AS Béziers Hérault in France.
Tragic!
"It is particularly tragic to mourn the loss of two outstanding young athletes at a time when our nation continues to immerse itself in the FIFA World Cup, as well as the Springboks and Women's Springboks matches against Scotland and the USA Women's Eagles, in Pretoria," the South African leader said.
He added: "We are grateful for the joy and victories that Jayden and Luqobo brought to us and their teams as they achieved their dreams and proudly represented South Africa on the world sporting stage. May their souls rest in peace."
It should be noted that Luqobo Makwedini was a member of the Springboks junior team. He was 20 years old.
