Sanitation in Medina Baye: The bold action of Sheikh Al Islam's grandsons against unsafe pipes

Just weeks before the international Gamou in Medina Baye, the newly formed association "Domi Daara" has taken action on the ground. The organization has launched a major cleanup campaign in the heart of the religious city of Sheikh Al Islam Sheikh Ibrahima Niass, in Kaolack, aiming to make the living environment safer and healthier for residents and future pilgrims.

Initiated by a group of grandsons of Mawlana Cheikh Ibrahima Niass, disciples, and engaged citizens, this program aims to address the city's recurring environmental challenges. The association's spokesperson, Cheikh Aboubacar Niass, noted that the poor condition of the drainage system and flooding of roads regularly cause tragedies during the rainy season.

For this first phase, the association successfully cleared three kilometers of drainage canals with the help of technical experts, while also installing 250 drainage channel covers to prevent falls and accidents. This operation benefited from the logistical and financial support of Mohamed Ndiaye Rahma, who was thanked by the organizers for providing vacuum trucks and resources dedicated to the success of the project.

Warning against manipulation and politicization

In response to the reactions sparked by this citizen mobilization on the eve of the Gamou festival, the leaders of "Domi Daara" felt compelled to clarify the purpose of their actions. The association formally called upon municipal authorities and local stakeholders to refrain from any attempt at political exploitation or manipulation.

Returning to the strictly voluntary nature of their initiative, Sheikh Aboubacar Niass reaffirmed that the sole purpose of the structure remains the selfless service of the religious city of the Fayda Tidjaniya and the sustainable improvement of its living environment during major spiritual events.
