Attaque contre l’aéroport de Niamey : La réaction de l’ambassade des USA au Niger
In Niger, Niamey airport was once again the target of a terrorist attack on the morning of June 18, 2026. The assailants attempted to breach the terminal building, but they were met with fierce resistance from the Nigerien defense and security forces, who successfully repelled them.
In a statement released on June 19, the United States Embassy in Niamey condemned the attack and praised the response of the security forces "who acted to repel (the attackers) and protect civilians and essential infrastructure."
The USA is firmly opposed to terrorism and violent extremism
The diplomatic mission reiterates that the United States "firmly opposes terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms, as attacks on critical infrastructure threaten civilians, undermine stability, and hinder efforts to build a safer and more secure Niger." It reaffirms the United States' support for the people of Niger and for "Niger's efforts to protect its citizens, defend key infrastructure, and hold those responsible for this attack accountable."
The embassy also highlighted Niger's important role in the Sahel. It is convinced that strengthened security in the country will help counter regional threats that could harm Nigerien and American interests.
In conclusion, the American diplomatic mission reiterated the determination of the American government to work with Niger to combat terrorism, support stability and promote accountability, in accordance with the law.
