It's a chilling story. In Benin, a man in his sixties, declared dead on the night of Friday, July 3, 2026, woke up the next morning, just as his parents and relatives were preparing to bury him.
The events took place in Gbozounmè, a locality in the commune of Avrankou (southern Benin). It should be noted that the man in his sixties was Muslim. Therefore, after being declared dead, he was washed and wrapped in a white shroud, in accordance with Islamic funeral rites.
"When he woke up, some believed it was a miracle, others were terrified."
His parents were waiting until the next day to bury him. But then, a dramatic turn of events! Around 6 a.m., the man regained consciousness, removed his shroud, and walked into the communal courtyard.
His parents couldn't believe their eyes. "Everyone was in tears and preparing for the prayer for the dead. When he woke up, some believed in a miracle, others were terrified," a witness told the newspaper Le Matinal.
Panic quickly gave way to joy. The man, returned from the dead, was quickly taken care of by his loved ones.
