Bénin : L’ex-président de l’Assemblée nationale Louis Vlavonou démissionne de son mandat de député
Re-elected as a member of parliament in the 2026 legislative elections, former Speaker of the National Assembly Louis Gbèhounou Vlavonou has decided to resign from his parliamentary duties. According to the public service newspaper La Nation, which reported the news, his resignation letter was submitted to the Speaker of Parliament on Thursday, July 2nd.
The native of Ko-Koumolou is therefore leaving the National Assembly, where he has served since 2007. His next destination is known: the Senate, the new institution created by the constitutional reform of November 2025.
Member by right of the Senate
In reality, Louis Vlavonou is an ex officio member of this state body, due to his status as former Speaker of Parliament. He thus joins his illustrious predecessors, namely Adrien Houngbédji, Amoussou Bruno, Mathurin Nago, and Antoine Idji Kolawolé.
