Burkina Faso : Des journalistes en rangers et en treillis pour des exercices militaires
This is quite unusual. In Burkina Faso, journalists have had the opportunity, for a few days, to put aside their pens, microphones, and cameras to don fatigues, combat boots, and military caps. The aim is to learn the basics of soldiering, weapons handling, tactical first aid, but also ethics, professional conduct, and information processing in wartime.
The journalist must be "engaged" in a Burkina Faso confronted with terrorism.
These 44 media professionals underwent this basic training for 5 days at the Pabré Police Academy, a commune in the Central region, near Ouagadougou.

It allowed them to strengthen their understanding of security realities and prepare to practice their profession in a crisis context. Yesterday, Thursday, August 13, the date of the end of their patriotic immersion, the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, stated in his address that journalists must be "committed" in a Burkina Faso confronted with terrorism. They must also demonstrate professionalism and patriotism.
These three concepts, namely patriotism, professionalism and commitment, go hand in hand, he said.
"A professional journalist who is not patriotic is a danger to his country."

"It is pointless, absolutely pointless, to be patriotic, to be professional, if you are not engaged," the minister asserted, calling on the 44 journalists to break free from passivity in the current context.
"A professional journalist who is not patriotic is a danger to his country," he argued.
