Burkina : Un crocodile du Nil capturé près des zones habitées à Ouagadougou
In Burkina Faso, a Nile crocodile that had been disturbing the peace of Ouagadougou residents was captured on Saturday, August 15th, by forestry agents. The reptile was swimming in an open drainage ditch in the city when the wildlife capture and release unit of the Forestry Operations Directorate skillfully apprehended it.
A rare protected species
The agents received support from the eco-guards of the Bangr Weogo urban park.
It must be said that the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is a protected species. The captured specimen will be quickly reintroduced into a safe environment suitable for its survival. The General Directorate of Water and Forests commended the local population for their invaluable role. Indeed, the department stated that it was because the townspeople immediately reported the crocodile's presence that any human tragedy was averted and this protected specimen was safely captured.
The Nile crocodile is one of the few species known to attack and sometimes eat humans.
