Burkina : Un ministre déplore le traitement infligé à ses compatriotes refoulés de Guinée
In Guinea, the government formally banned artisanal and unregulated gold mining on November 2nd. Law enforcement was deployed to enforce the measure. This was followed by a mass expulsion of gold miners from the sub-region, including Burkinabe nationals, to Mali.
On the orders of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Minister of Security of Burkina Faso, Mahamadou Sana, went to Bamako yesterday, Wednesday, to inquire about the situation of these young gold miners.
"We have recorded injuries, sometimes gunshot wounds."
He met with his Malian counterpart, Major General Daoud Aly Mohammedine. Discussions focused on the measures taken by the Malian authorities to ensure the reception and care of those affected, as well as the practical arrangements for their transfer to Burkina Faso.
On this occasion, the Burkinabe official expressed his gratitude to the Malian authorities for their support and solidarity.
He also deplored the conditions under which Burkinabe nationals were expelled from the country.
"From what we are hearing, we have recorded injuries, sometimes gunshot wounds, which suggests that our compatriots have suffered cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment," said Mahamadou Sana, not without regretting the attitude of the Guinean authorities who did not think it necessary to inform the Burkinabe government in advance of their operation.
"Under no circumstances were the Malian or Burkinabe authorities informed in advance of this operation."
“This is highly deplorable and regrettable. We believe that such an operation cannot be launched without planning. And planning also implies assessing the consequences and implications… In no case were the Malian or Burkinabe authorities informed in advance of this operation. This prevented them from truly anticipating what is currently happening,” said Minister Sana.
With his Malian counterpart, he agreed on the measures to be taken to facilitate the safe and orderly return of his compatriots. Approximately one hundred buses are expected to be mobilized to transport them to Burkina Faso.
