Centrafrique : Ouverture du procès par contumace de l’ex-président François Bozizé
The Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Bangui opened the trial in absentia of former Central African president François Bozizé on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Exiled in Guinea-Bissau since 2023, he is being prosecuted for alleged crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, enforced disappearances, and sexual violence committed between 2009 and 2013.
Three former military officials from his regime are also appearing before this UN-backed court. The case concerns alleged abuses committed in detention centers in Bossembélé.
Already sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 for conspiracy, rebellion and murder, François Bozizé now faces a new legal procedure.
This trial is considered an important step in the fight against impunity and the search for justice for victims of conflict in the Central African Republic.
