Disparition mystérieuse de l’agent de l’État, Pierre Dangnivo, au Bénin : La main lourde de la justice contre le principal suspect
On August 17, 2010, Pierre Urbain Dangnivo, a finance ministry official and prominent trade unionist, disappeared on his way home from work. Alerted, the police quickly launched an investigation that led to the exhumation of his body on September 17, 2010, in the backyard of Alofa Cossi Codjo, a charlatan residing in Womey (a village in the Abomey-Calavi commune of southern Benin). However, the family vehemently disputes the identity of the deceased.
Sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder
The justice system paid no heed. The charlatan was arrested and thrown in jail. After several years of postponements and further investigations, the trial related to the case opened on March 11, 2026, at the Cotonou Court of First Instance.
It came to an end yesterday, Wednesday, July 22, with the conviction of the main defendant, Alofa Cossi Codjo, to 30 years of criminal imprisonment for murder and the acquittal of the co-defendant, Donatien Amoussou.
The defense lawyers withdrew from the courtroom.
The court rejected the prosecution's request to reclassify the offenses, as well as the defense lawyers' request for handwriting analysis of certain documents in the file.
He also ordered the return of the state official's remains to his family.
It should be noted that the verdict was delivered in a deserted courtroom, as the defense and civil party lawyers had decided to withdraw, as had the family of the unfortunate man.
