Fass-Mbao: A trivial argument over a Netflix account sends a woman to prison

Ms. Seydi, a 28-year-old housewife residing in Fass-Mbao, is languishing in prison following a trivial family dispute over a shared Netflix account. During an altercation, she allegedly threatened to kill a young woman, F. Ndoye, who had come to retrieve the access codes for a Premium account shared with her friend.

The investigation was conducted by the Diamaguène-Sicap Mbao police station. According to Seneweb, the events date back to July 2, 2026, in Fass-Mbao. On that day, F. Ndoye, a sales representative, went to the home of her friend PS Badji to retrieve information related to the Netflix Premium account they shared. Upon arrival, she was confronted by M. Seydi, the wife of a family member living on the same property.

According to the complainant, Mariama Seydi immediately hurled insults at her before threatening to kill her. She claims that the accused entered her room and came out with a machete, declaring that she was going to "tear her to pieces." According to her statement, only the intervention of Mr. Seydi's husband prevented a tragedy.

F. Ndoye also claims she was called a "prostitute" and accused of having a relationship with PS Badji. She says these remarks quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, damaging her reputation.

When questioned by investigators, PS Badji confirmed the scene. He explained that the tensions with Mr. Seydi were long-standing and claimed to have heard her sharpening a machete before attacking his visitors.

When questioned by police, Ms. Seydi gave a completely different version of events. She admitted to grabbing a machete, but maintained that she did so because PS Badji was also armed. However, she denied making death threats or insulting F. Ndoye, claiming that she had simply asked him to leave.

Brought before the prosecutor at the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court, Ms. Seydi was remanded in custody on July 14th. She is being prosecuted for death threats, non-public insults, and illegal possession of a weapon.

His case was called for a summary trial on July 18, before being postponed to July 27, due to his behavior in court, which the court deemed disrespectful.
