Gambie : 20 Sénégalais parmi les 76 candidats à la migration irrégulière interceptés à Tanji
A new operation against irregular migration was carried out in The Gambia. On September 4, 2026, the Gambia Department of Immigration (GID), through its Border Patrol Unit (BPU), based at the Migration Management Unit (MMU) in Tanji, intercepted 76 suspected candidates for irregular migration.
The operation was conducted with the support of Spanish partners. It enabled the agents to seize a wooden dugout canoe, a tricycle, two boat engines, as well as significant quantities of fuel: 5 60-liter jerrycans and 5 30-liter jerrycans.
A suspected smuggler has also been arrested. Detained at the Gambian Department of Immigration, he is cooperating with investigators as they try to determine the circumstances and organization of this attempted departure.
The intercepted group is composed of nationals from several countries in the sub-region. It includes 7 Gambians, 20 Senegalese, 6 Malians, and 43 Guineans. The group comprises 54 men, 14 women, and minors.
