Guinée : du minerai aux emplois, le pari à 3 milliards de la Banque mondial.
The World Bank is shifting gears in Guinea. Its new Country Partnership Framework (2027-2033) includes $2.1 billion in commitments, supplemented by nearly $1 billion through the IFC and MIGA—for a total of over $3 billion. Guinea thus becomes one of the institution's leading beneficiaries in West Africa.
The context: growth exceeding 7% by 2025, driven by the mining boom and the Simandou mega-project (a $20 billion investment). But this prosperity remains fragile as long as it doesn't translate into jobs. More than 60% of Guineans are young, unemployment remains high, and dependence on raw materials persists.
Guinea: From minerals to jobs, the World Bank's $3 billion bet. The new framework addresses this equation through three key levers: governance and public finances, essential infrastructure (energy, transport, urban development), and a more dynamic private sector to diversify the economy. It is part of the national strategy Simandou 2040, which aims to make mineral resources an engine of industrialization and human development.
In addition, three new deals have been approved for $291 million, continuing a portfolio already rich with around twenty active projects.
The challenge for Conakry is no longer to mobilize financing—that's a given. It's to transform mining revenue into inclusive growth. Guinea has the assets: bauxite, iron, gold, hydroelectric power. It now remains for it to prove that the wealth of its subsoil can finally become the wealth of its people.
