Guinée: l'opposition appelle "les patriotes" à "mettre fin à la dictature"
The statement from the group was published on the day that Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya, who came to power in a 2021 coup before being elected president in late 2025, left the country. Mr. Doumbouya is traveling to Greece with his family "for a few days of rest" as part of his "annual leave," according to a statement from his office.
In this statement, the Guinean Civil Society (FVG) believes that "Mamadi Doumbouya and his clan govern by terror, impose themselves by repression, violence and corruption".
"This regime has gradually transformed into a dictatorship characterized by targeted assassinations, deaths in custody of civilian and military figures, enforced disappearances, kidnappings and acts of torture targeting opinion leaders," they denounce.
They also condemn "the muzzling of the press" and "the arbitrary dissolution of dozens of the most representative political parties".
General Doumbouya was elected president for a seven-year term on December 28, 2025, despite his initial promise to hand power back to civilians after a transition period.
The president's movement and its allied parties then won more than 80% of the seats in Parliament during the legislative elections of May 31st.
"The so-called constitutional referendum, the sham presidential, legislative and communal elections organized behind closed doors cannot bind the people of Guinea, who are deprived of exercising their right to freely choose their leaders," the FVG believe.
According to the group, "these sham elections were only intended to endorse a seizure of power and to give an appearance of legitimacy to a regime that came to power through a military coup."
The group solemnly declared on Monday that it rejected "all institutions resulting from these fraudulent processes".
The FVG calls on "all Guinean patriots" to "join them to end the dictatorship, restore fundamental freedoms and work towards an effective return to constitutional order".
General Doumbouya has ruled Guinea with an iron fist since the 2021 coup.
In recent years, several political parties have been suspended, demonstrations - banned since 2022 - have been repressed and many opposition and civil society leaders have been arrested, convicted or forced into exile.
