Guinée: un activiste porté disparu après son interpellation dans son école, selon sa famille
Guinean activist Bella Bah has been missing since Saturday, AFP learned from his wife and a witness, who claim he was "abducted" while at his school in Conakry.
On Saturday afternoon, "a teacher called me to inform me that my husband had been abducted from his school," Ami Bah stated in a Facebook post.
"Since his abduction, I have absolutely no idea where he has been taken. I am extremely worried about him. I don't know what he is accused of," she added.
A witness interviewed by AFP stated that Mr. Bah was "kidnapped by men in uniform and hooded men who arrived in pickup trucks", and that he was "dragged outside and forcibly taken away".
Reached by AFP on Sunday, Ms. Bah said she had "no news" of her husband since Saturday and was "traumatized".
No Guinean authority has responded to AFP's requests to confirm or deny the arrest or abduction of the activist, nor has it communicated on his possible place of detention.
Bella Bah's disappearance comes just hours after a controversial post in which he criticized the first imam of the Grand Mosque Fayçal, Mamadou Saliou Camara.
In response to the reactions sparked by this publication, the activist announced that he had removed it.
Bella Bah is known for his critical stances on social media and for his interventions on political and social issues in Guinea.
"The legal procedure would have required that he be summoned according to the rules so that he could present himself to the police or the gendarmerie. My husband has never shirked his responsibilities; he would have presented himself without hesitation. I request the assistance of the Public Prosecutor to find out where my husband is being held," urged Mrs. Bah.
Cases of abduction and enforced disappearance of dissenting voices and their relatives have increased in Guinea in recent years. The authorities have consistently denied any knowledge of these disappearances.
Since General Mamadi Doumbouya seized power – coming to power through a coup in 2021 before being elected president of the country at the end of 2025 – several political parties have been suspended, demonstrations have been repressed and many opposition and civil society leaders have been arrested, convicted or forced into exile.
