President Mamadi Doumbouya's vacation is over. The Guinean president, whose brief stay in Greece sparked considerable debate, will return to Conakry tomorrow, Friday. The announcement was made by the Guinean presidency, specifically by his civil cabinet.

"The Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic of Guinea informs the sovereign people of Guinea of the return to Conakry this Friday, August 14, 2026, of His Excellency Mamadi Doumbouya, President of the Republic, Head of State, after his annual leave," reads its press release.

President Doumbouya has been on vacation since August 3rd. He traveled with his family to Greece. This vacation has sparked much debate in Guinea. On August 6th, in an attempt to quell the controversy, the coup leader responded.

"A brief moment of respite, surrounded by my family, before fully resuming the pace of our national projects," he posted on his digital platforms. The text accompanied several photos of him comfortably seated on a boat with his wife and child.

He added: "Guinea is moving forward, its institutions are functioning, and nothing will deter us from our determination to lead the Nation towards the objectives we have set together for the well-being of our people. Wherever I am, I remain exclusively at the service of our country and its people."

Indeed, in recent months, Mamadi Doumbouya has appeared several times looking frailer than before, sparking much speculation about his health. Guinean authorities have made no official statement on the matter. However, many in his country believe that the man who overthrew Condé has gone to recuperate.
