Le Burkina Faso va produire du vin
In Burkina Faso, the Council of Ministers yesterday, Thursday, October 22, 2026, adopted a draft decree establishing the Burkina Faso Wine Company (SOVIB).
The government says it has observed that the country "imports almost all of the wine and spirits consumed by its population," while it "has considerable winemaking expertise and agricultural potential."
A mixed-economy company with an initial capital of one billion CFA francs
SOVIB was therefore conceived to transform Burkina Faso's dependence on imported wines into an opportunity. The goal is, of course, to produce wine locally.
This "mixed economy company has an initial capital of one billion CFA francs with a participation of 45% for the State, 10% for BRAFASO (the country's brewery company) and 45% for the Burkinabe private sector".
The creation of SOVIB is also in line with national priorities of industrialization, economic sovereignty and inclusion of vulnerable populations.

Le vent du souveraineté souffle maintenant. Un continent qui ne cherche même pas à fabriquer une aiguille ni une moustiquaire.
