Le Nigeria a atteint son plus haut niveau de production de pétrole depuis six ans, dépassant son quota OPEP
Nigeria's crude oil production reached its highest level in 74 months last month, officials announced over the weekend, averaging 1.56 million barrels per day, or 104% of its quota set by OPEC.
Africa's leading oil producer, the country has increased its production in recent years, notably thanks to a strengthened fight against theft, marked by the recruitment of former militants who once sabotaged oil pipelines to now ensure their security.
The gradual disengagement of large foreign oil companies, facing pollution scandals in the Niger Delta, from certain onshore projects and wishing to concentrate on offshore exploitation, has allowed local companies to take over.
"The improved performance is mainly due to the stability of production operations at most sites and the absence of major disruptions to the pipelines during the period under review," the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) said Sunday evening.
Including condensates, oil production averaged 1.74 million barrels per day in June, the NUPRC said.
The Nigerian government maintains its target of producing 2 million barrels per day.
Oil production in Africa's most populous country has long been hampered by illegal siphoning, as well as allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the state.
The figures recorded in June represent the highest level of crude oil production since April 2020.
