L’influenceur camerounais Élysée le Snieper arrêté à Abidjan pour avoir traité la Côte d’Ivoire de « pays de merde » en 2021
While in Ivory Coast to participate in the "Africa Supports Africa" campaign, a pan-African solidarity initiative, Cameroonian influencer Élysée le Snieper was arrested by police on the evening of Sunday, June 21. He is being held accountable for statements he made five years ago.
Indeed, in 2021, he published a video in which he could be heard making remarks deemed offensive and insulting towards Ivory Coast.
Ivory Coast, a "shithole country", "run by France" with "a shithole president"
He notably described Ivory Coast as a "shithole country", "run by France" with "a shithole president", "useless", "neo-colonial", "against Africa".
Before his arrest, the influencer had posted a video in which he apologized to the Ivorian people. He recalled that 2021 had been marked by heated exchanges between Ivorian and Cameroonian internet users on social media.
He explains that it was in response to hostile remarks targeting his country and its authorities that he made his offensive statements about Ivory Coast, while acknowledging his wrongdoing. In any case, the Ivorian justice system is determined to hold him accountable for his actions.
Spotted on the Alassane Ouattara bridge, holding a German flag in his hands
It should be noted that since his arrival in Ivory Coast, Élysée the Sniper has hardly made any effort to win the sympathy of the Ivorian people. He was recently seen on the Alassane Ouattara bridge holding a German flag. This was perceived as a provocation, given that the Elephants were playing Germany in the World Cup.
