Mali : Un deuxième journaliste jeté en prison en moins de 72 heures
In Mali, journalist Abdramane Keita was remanded in custody yesterday, Tuesday, June 9, after appearing before the public prosecutor at the National Cybercrime Unit. The editor of the newspaper "Le Témoin" is accused of committing a "regionalist offense, likely to undermine national unity and the credibility of the state."
Malian justice also accuses him of having published and disseminated "false and misleading information with the intention that this information be considered authentic through an information system".
His trial is scheduled to begin on August 17th.
Last Monday, another journalist was also placed under arrest warrant.
This concerns Chahana Takiou, the publishing director of the bi-weekly newspaper "22 septembre". The media professional is being prosecuted for alleged acts of "undermining the credibility of the State".
The Malian Press House and professional media organizations have expressed their concern. They are calling for mobilization.
