Maroc: deux personnalités condamnées à 10 et 12 ans de prison dans un scandale de trafic de drogue
The former head of the Wydad Casablanca (WAC) football club, Said Naciri, and the former president of a region in eastern Morocco, Abdenbi Bioui, were sentenced on Thursday evening, June 25, to 10 and 12 years in prison respectively, in a major drug trafficking case dubbed the "Escobar of the Sahara." Said Naciri and Abdenbi Bioui were prosecuted for "possession, trafficking, and export of drugs," as well as for "corruption," "forgery," and "use of forged documents." This marks the first time in Morocco that a trial has implicated prominent political figures in a drug trafficking case.
The investigation was launched in 2023 following statements made by a Malian national, already convicted in Morocco for drug trafficking. The magazine Jeune Afrique identified this Malian as El Hadj Ahmed Ben Ibrahim, nicknamed the "Escobar of the Sahara," a drug kingpin sentenced in 2019 to ten years in prison for "international drug trafficking."
