A first convoy of 120 Senegalese nationals will leave Morocco this Friday, September 4, 2026, to return to Senegal by land. These nationals are among the migrants rescued or intercepted at sea by the Royal Moroccan Navy as part of voluntary repatriation operations.
"The repatriation is confirmed. A first convoy of 120 compatriots will leave Morocco on Friday, September 4, 2026, to reach Senegal by land," said Babou Sène, Consul General of Senegal in Dakhla, a city located in southern Morocco.
The convoy must cross Mauritania before reaching Senegalese territory. According to the consul general, the 120 migrants are expected in Rosso, a border town between Mauritania and Senegal, as early as Saturday.
The Senegalese consular authorities in Dakhla indicate that steps are continuing with the Moroccan authorities and the relevant diplomatic missions in order to organize further voluntary repatriation operations.
To date, 251 Senegalese are still being housed in the migrant centers of Bir-Guindouz and Argoub, in southern Morocco. They are awaiting their return to Senegal under the voluntary repatriation program.
