Nice : un faux employé d'hôtel dérobe environ 100.000 euros d'effets personnels à des touristes ukrainiens
Ukrainian holidaymakers were victims of a robbery estimated at around 100,000 euros on Friday, July 17, in a hotel located on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
A vacation turned nightmare. Ukrainian tourists residing in Germany were robbed of numerous personal belongings shortly after arriving at the AC Hotel Nice by Marriott on the afternoon of Friday, July 17, according to Nice-Matin. The suspect reportedly impersonated a hotel employee to steal their room access cards.
After checking in at reception, the tourists were approached by a man in his fifties. He introduced himself as a member of the hotel staff and offered to carry their luggage to their room.
A loss of 100,000 euros
During the journey, the con artist allegedly took advantage of a moment of inattention to swap their access card for another. The tourists, who noticed nothing amiss, settled into their room before leaving the hotel that evening.
Upon returning to the hotel around 1:00 AM, the victims discovered their keycard no longer worked. After finally managing to get back to their room, they found their belongings were missing.
The public prosecutor in Nice, Damien Martinelli, confirmed that the damage amounted to approximately €100,000. An investigation for aggravated theft has been opened, and the victims' statements were taken on Saturday, July 16.
