Présidence de la Commission de la CEDEAO : Le Sénégal sollicite le soutien de la Côte d’Ivoire pour la candidature du général Birame Diop
The Vice-President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Tiemoko Meyliet Koné, received on Monday the Senegalese Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheick Niang, who was carrying a message from the Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to his Ivorian counterpart Alassane Ouattara.
At the heart of the discussions was the candidacy of General Birame Diop for the presidency of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as well as the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Ivory Coast and Senegal.
This meeting is part of the diplomatic consultations conducted by Dakar with the member states of the sub-regional organization. Senegal is specifically seeking the support of its partners for the candidacy of General Birame Diop to head the community institution.
Beyond this issue, both sides reaffirmed the strength of relations between Abidjan and Dakar, two capitals linked by close historical, political, and economic ties. They also emphasized their shared commitment to the ideals of African integration, regional stability, and cooperation among peoples.
The visit of the head of Senegalese diplomacy thus demonstrates the desire of both countries to continue their consultations on major regional issues and to consolidate a partnership based on shared values and a common vision for the development of the African continent.
