Peanut Basin: Farmers welcome the soil fertilization program and call for its expansion

Bassin arachidier : Les agriculteurs saluent le programme de fertilisation des sols et demandent son élargissement

The Secretary General of the Peanut Basin Farmers, Cheikh Tidiane Cissé, welcomed the soil fertilization program implemented by the State. He considers this initiative an important step towards the sustainable revival of agricultural production.

According to him, the provision of lime and phosphate, as well as the efforts made in distributing quality seeds and other agricultural equipment, reflect a desire to strengthen the foundations of agricultural development.

“Lime helps correct soil acidity while phosphate promotes crop development. These are essential inputs for restoring soil fertility and improving yields,” explained Cheikh Tidiane Cissé.

While welcoming this program, the agricultural official advocates for its extension to all municipalities in the peanut basin. He believes that the central regions should also benefit from this support in order to significantly increase agricultural production.

He also noted that the beneficiary producers had been identified and that several localities had been included in the distribution. He stated that larger quantities would allow for an increased number of beneficiaries in future campaigns.

Cheikh Tidiane Cissé also thanked the authorities for the resources mobilized in transporting the products to the farmers, stressing that the distribution was done free of charge.

Finally, he invited the beneficiaries to use the products received quickly in order to optimize their effects on crops and highlighted the strong participation of women in this operation.

For him, their growing involvement in the agricultural sector deserves increased support in order to contribute more to the development of Senegalese agriculture.
