Bignona: 300 tonnes of organic amendment to accelerate the agroecological transition

The Local Agroecological Transition Dynamics (DYTAEL) of Bignona received a donation of 300 tons of solid organic amendment and 1,500 liters of liquid amendment. This support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock marks a decisive step in the department's agroecological transition, according to members of this farmers' organization.

“This is a significant moment for farmers in the department,” stated Clément Sambou, Secretary General of DYTAEEL in Bignona. He also emphasized the importance of this subsidy for producers involved in horticulture, arboriculture, and field crops. Following an agroecological approach, the objective is clear: to produce more, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and to provide communities with healthy food, “from farm to fork.”

Thanks to this initiative, each producer can now purchase a 50-kilo bag of solid organic amendment for just 1,000 CFA francs. This measure significantly reduces the cost of inputs, often the largest expense in agricultural costs. "The most expensive inputs are amendments and treatment products. This subsidy is a real boon for us," said Mr. Sambou.

He explained that the access requirements are simple: present identification, specify your location, the crops you intend to cultivate and the area you wish to cultivate, and then pay a nominal fee. This inclusive approach allows all producers to benefit from state support.

This 2026-2027 wintering campaign is a continuation of a program that began three years ago. The Ministry of Agriculture is thus continuing its support for rural communities to strengthen food sovereignty.
