Campagne agricole 2026-2027 : 130 milliards FCFA mobilisés pour accélérer la souveraineté alimentaire
The Senegalese government has launched preparations for the 2026-2027 agricultural season with an investment of 130 billion CFA francs. This announcement was made during the inter-ministerial council meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, chaired by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mouhamed Lô.
The Senegalese government has unveiled a major action program for the 2026-2027 agricultural campaign. A budget of 130 billion FCFA and a new strategic direction, focused on productivity, climate resilience and the structuring of value chains, have been allocated.
This envelope of 130 billion FCFA, included in the 2026 budget, will finance agricultural inputs, mechanization, hydraulic infrastructure as well as the digitalization of the sector.
The State also plans a debt settlement plan of nearly 90 billion FCFA to settle debts to operators and facilitate the running of the campaign.
To secure implementation, the State intends to strengthen innovative financing mechanisms by involving the banking sector more, in particular the Agricultural Bank, the National Development Bank and the Housing Bank of Senegal, with the support of Fongip.
Key innovations include the digitalization of input distribution, which will be progressively rolled out to improve transparency and beneficiary targeting through the National Single Registry. In addition, 1,000 young volunteers will be mobilized to support the digital registration of producers, the geolocation of plots, and crop monitoring.
The government also intends to promote inclusion by reserving at least 30% of inputs for women and young people.
Specific measures are planned for the agricultural sectors: mandatory contracts for rice, development of hybrid maize varieties with a target of 50,000 tons under contract, and gradual reform of the peanut sector in partnership with the private sector. Faced with the effects of climate change, the government is focusing on crop diversification, the promotion of resistant varieties, and the implementation of index-based agricultural insurance to protect producers against weather-related risks.
Through these reforms, the government aims to sustainably modernize the agricultural sector and strengthen Senegal's food sovereignty.
