Dahra : Le Directoire des femmes en élevage (DIRFEL) veut mettre fin aux conflits entre agriculteurs et éleveurs
The Women's Livestock Directorate organized a public conference yesterday, Thursday, in Dahra, on the theme: "Conflicts between farmers and herders." Given Linguère's geographical location, conflicts are frequently observed, especially during harvest time.
To put an end to the recurring clashes between farmers and herders, DIRFEL has decided to take action to raise awareness. The panelists emphasized the responsibilities of each party in combating this growing problem.
According to the president of DIRFEL, Fatimata Sall, "the Ministry of Livestock has established transhumance corridors for the movement of livestock. Both herders and farmers must respect the regulations to avoid such clashes."
Pastoral and agricultural organizations, which had a strong presence at the meeting, pledged to raise awareness among their members. Discussions, meetings, and radio broadcasts are planned to strengthen peace between the two groups.
Pape Alioune Sall, technical advisor to the Minister of Livestock, who came to represent the Minister, urged both parties to work towards lasting peace. According to him, livestock farmers and crop farmers are destined to coexist.
