Festival Alimenterre 2026 : La souveraineté alimentaire au cœur de la 9e édition
The 9th edition of the Alimenterre festival in Senegal opened on Monday at the Blaise Senghor cultural center in Dakar, around the theme "Food sovereignty in Senegal: producing sustainably, eating healthily, feeding our villages and our cities".
In a context marked by the overhaul of agricultural policies, this edition aims to mobilize public authorities, producers, local communities, and citizens to build sustainable food systems based on the promotion of local products. The festival will continue in Thiès on October 31st.
Yaram Fall, president of the Women's College of the National Council for Consultation and Cooperation of Rural People (CNCR), calls on the State to strengthen its support for farmers and livestock breeders, particularly in terms of financing, agricultural insurance and access to quality seeds.
She also emphasized the importance of the framework law for food sovereignty. She believes that seed autonomy is an essential condition for the development of national production.
The official also advocated for strengthening local processing of agricultural products in order to support family farms, create opportunities for women and young people, and combat rural exodus.
"We reaffirm our commitment alongside the government, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to accelerate the implementation of these strategic policies," she said.
