Retard des pluies : À Ziguinchor, le DRDR mobilise les producteurs pour une campagne agricole résiliente
In Ziguinchor, the regional director of rural development (DRDR), Casimir Adrien Sambou, made an urgent appeal to producers regarding the particularities of the 2026 rainy season. According to ANACIM forecasts, the rainy season will experience delays and pauses in rainfall, exposing seeds to "false starts" if producers do not adapt.
“We must avoid sowing too early and losing our seeds. Producers must wait for the right time, as the rains will come in August, September and October, but with delays and pauses,” warned the DRDR.
Faced with these climatic constraints, the government has implemented a comprehensive strategy to support farms. Appropriate agricultural inputs are being distributed, including organic and calcium-magnesium amendments to improve soil structure, as well as varieties selected for their resilience to southern ecosystems. "These inputs are essential to enhance soil fertility and ensure better productivity," explained Mr. Sambou.
Mechanization and water management are also priority areas. Water programs have been implemented to reduce dependence on rainfall and offer producers sustainable solutions. "Water is now the primary factor in agriculture. The government has made progress in water management, but we must remain vigilant in the face of risks," emphasized the Regional Director of Rural Development (DRDR).
Beyond inputs and equipment, collective mobilization remains crucial. "We are working together with producer organizations and technical services to ensure the success of this campaign. I think we will succeed," stated Casimir Adrien Sambou, confident in the resilience of Ziguinchor's farmers.
