SAED : Les syndicats dénoncent « l'humiliation » du directeur général par le ministre de l'Agriculture
The National Union of SAED Workers (SNTS), affiliated with the CNTS, and the College of Staff Delegates are reacting to the incident that occurred on September 29 at the CIFA during a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, Cheikhou Oumar Ba, and producers. The workers are denouncing, in particular, the treatment of the Director General of the National Company for the Development and Exploitation of Lands in the Senegal River Delta (SAED) and are calling for respect for institutional channels.
The incident that occurred on Tuesday, September 29th at CIFA in Saint-Louis continues to generate reactions. In a statement released on Wednesday, September 30th, the National Union of SAED Workers (SNTS) and the College of Staff Delegates said they had followed "with deep concern" the altercation that occurred during the meeting between Minister Cheikhou Oumar Ba and the producers.
While acknowledging the role of producers, whom workers consider to be "privileged partners" of SAED, the two organizations believe that the events that occurred during the meeting constitute a threat to the "authority and credibility" of the institution.
In their press release, the SNTS (National Union of Senegalese Workers) and the College of Staff Representatives deplore what they describe as the "demeanor of the Director General before the authorities, his colleagues, and his partners." According to them, such a situation is likely to weaken SAED (the Algerian Water Supply Company), undermine employee morale, and demotivate staff, who are already facing significant pressure in the field. The workers' representatives also assert that this is the second time a supervising minister has adopted such a stance toward SAED.
Recalling that the National Company for the Development and Exploitation of Lands in the Senegal River Delta (SAED) has over 50 years of history serving the rural community, the workers believe that its Director General embodies the institution and, as such, must be respected in the performance of his duties. They therefore call upon the supervising minister, Cheikhou Oumar Ba, to prioritize institutional channels for any guidance or adjustments concerning the company's management. "A Director General does not reprimand himself in front of his subordinates and partners," they emphasize in the statement.
Through this action, the workers say they are reaffirming their attachment to SAED and their support for the institution, while renewing their commitment alongside the producers.
The staff, "from BLD to Bakel", thus affirm their desire to continue working towards the goal of food sovereignty.
