Souveraineté alimentaire : Le CNCR appelle à renforcer l’agriculture familiale
Food sovereignty is emerging as a major issue in Senegal, in a context marked by the high cost of living, rising consumer prices and environmental challenges.
It is in this context that the National Council for Consultation and Cooperation of Rural People (CNCR) calls for strengthening the role of family farming and accelerating the agroecological transition.
“Today, faced with the high cost of living, rising consumer prices and environmental challenges, the question of our food sovereignty and the agroecological transition is posed with particular urgency,” said Amadou Makhtar Mbodj, Secretary General of the CNCR, on Friday during the press conference dedicated to the launch of the 2026 Food Festival.
According to him, family farming is an essential lever for meeting the country's food needs. "Family farming is not just a mode of production: it is the foundation of our local economy, the guarantee of our food security and the guarantor of the dignity of our rural producers," he stressed.
This vision will be at the heart of the 2026 edition of the Food Festival, which will be themed "Food sovereignty in Senegal: producing sustainably, eating healthily, feeding our villages and cities".
