Senegal: Yango Ride announces a 33% decrease in dangerous driving incidents

Sénégal : Yango Ride annonce une baisse de 33 % des incidents de conduite dangereuse

In its latest Safety Report 2024–2025 (downloadable via this link: https://static.yango.tech/s3/lpc-ext/YANGO/Safety_report/FR.pdf ) , the ride-hailing platform Yango Ride (part of the global technology group Yango Group) presents the results of its measures deployed in Senegal to ensure the safety of passengers and partner drivers. The 33% decrease in dangerous driving incidents is attributed to real-time analysis of driving style, enhanced confidentiality of communications, and 24/7 emergency assistance, supported locally by road safety training and awareness campaigns.

Over the period 2024–2025, the deployment of new driving style analysis and speed control measures led to a 33% decrease in reported dangerous driving incidents in Senegal . Across the African region, these incidents declined by 38%, with decreases also recorded in Côte d'Ivoire (35%), Zambia (49%), and Angola (34%).

Thanks to the deployment of call privacy protection technologies, complaints related to post-ride contacts have decreased by 8% in Senegal , a trend also observed in Ivory Coast (11%), Angola (22%) and Zambia (4%).

Emergency assistance is available 24/7 across all markets where the platform operates, including Senegal. Technology identifies urgent requests, while trained specialists remain responsible for analyzing situations and making decisions. In 90% of urgent cases globally, a trained specialist aims to establish initial contact within five minutes.

Technology present at every stage of the race

Yango's safety system operates before, during, and after each ride. Before departure, identity and document verification—including driver's licenses, recurring verification selfies, and anti-fraud systems—determines who can access the service. During the ride, passengers and partner drivers have access to a Safety Center to share their route with trusted contacts, contact emergency services, or use the SOS button. Driving style analysis and GPS speed monitoring also allow for the identification of repeated risky behaviors and trigger a proportionate response, up to and including removal from the platform if necessary. After the ride, both driver and passenger can rate each other.

Calls via the application finally allow exchanges to remain in protected channels, without both parties having to share their personal phone number — a key factor in the 8% decrease in complaints related to unwanted post-ride contact recorded in Senegal.

“A 38% reduction in dangerous driving incidents across Africa is not the result of a single feature: it is the result of consistently applied technology, combined with the expertise of our teams in each country. This system is applied before, during and after every ride, wherever we operate,” explains Roman Karlash, Managing Director of Yango Ride.

Road safety awareness in Senegal

In Senegal, the ride-hailing app's approach goes beyond technology. In November 2024, the company organized a road safety event in Dakar, bringing together 300 partner drivers and focusing on responsible behavior. In 2025, the technology platform continued this awareness campaign by broadcasting radio messages on road safety during peak travel periods, particularly during the Grand Magal of Touba , encouraging adherence to traffic laws, taking rest breaks, driving responsibly, and using the ride-sharing feature.

These initiatives are part of a broader approach across Africa, where the platform collaborates with public institutions, road safety organizations and local communities: a memorandum of understanding with the Integrated Public Safety Centre in Angola, and the Safer Journeys to School initiative in Zambia, which has introduced road improvements in five schools in Lusaka, benefiting approximately 8,000 students.
