De la nécessité de le petite mécanisation de l’Agriculture Sénégalaise (Par Pape Ba Gahn)
75.3% of farmers are small producers with less than 1 to 5 hectares! Small, adapted equipment with local maintenance is essential!
We also need to promote small processing units for local products throughout the country and work more on distribution hubs in each region.
We must avoid repeating the mistakes of a man who talked to us about agribusiness all day long when the foundation wasn't there!
The DMER needs to be strengthened in its policy of promoting small-scale mechanization and the national private sector needs to be supported in becoming equipment suppliers.
The new Minister of Agriculture COBA knows the sector well, having worked in it for the past few years as a researcher and, above all, as an architect of public policies promoting agriculture.
I dare to hope that he will bring about the necessary reforms to support small producers (the vast majority) and to support resilient agriculture, market intermediation hubs and distribution.
There is still enormous work to be done in this sector and especially a necessary reorganization of the supply chains and producer organizations.
Finally, I hope to be able to share the concept of regional distribution hubs very soon with MASAE, where I worked a few years ago when I was still in the development sector! #Insights #Agriculture #Entrepreneurship
