Omar Demba Ba, a writer in the shadows of presidential speeches (by BABACAR JUSTIN NDIAYE)

Omar Demba Ba, une plume dans l’ombre des discours présidentiels (par BABACAR JUSTIN NDIAYE)

I will read (in the immediate future; perhaps as early as tomorrow) the book by Diplomat Omar Demba Ba. For two reasons:

1) I am an insatiable bookworm.

2) The book fills a thematic field that analysts, journalists and columnists are constantly working on.

I don't know the author. However, the numerous and laudatory reviews suggest, and even demonstrate, that the long-serving Diplomatic Advisor is an aesthete of the pen.

Because, indeed, in other countries, royal and/or presidential speeches are written by a group of advisors and collaborators with varied skills and styles.

General De Gaulle personally and entirely wrote the speeches that have gone down in history: the Bayeux speech, the April 1961 speech against the "four-pack of treacherous generals" and the anti-chaos speech of May 68.

The other speeches from the period 1958-1969 were written either by Burin Des Rosiers, Secretary General of the Elysée, or by Bernard Tricot, Director of the Cabinet of General De Gaulle.

Under Mitterrand, we know that the speech delivered before the Bundestag in Germany was co-written by Hubert Védrine and Jacques Attali.

As for President Senghor, he wrote as he had others write. And in both cases, Senghor was always a stickler for correctness and perfection.

Among Senghor's "pen-writers" were the Frenchman Michel Aurillac (Senghor's legal advisor and future Minister of Cooperation), Moustapha Niasse and the political advisor Henry Jean-Baptiste (originally from Martinique).

Thomas Sankara, Hassan 2, etc..... Quelle epoque ou les presidents africains avec de la consistance , de la teneur, du style et de linspiration. !
