Culture urbaine à Thiès : 13 jeunes initiés au Deejaying grâce à DJ Lass
In Thiès, promoting urban culture also involves vocational training. Through the second edition of his DJ training program, Samba Diop, better known as "DJ Lass," trained 13 young people, including two women, in DJ techniques. This initiative aims to strengthen local skills and offer new career opportunities to young music enthusiasts.
For four days, participants benefited from training combining theory and practice. The program included: introduction to turntables, scratching techniques, mixing, musical transitions, and mastery of DJ equipment.
The goal is to enable them to become skilled, creative, and independent professionals. This training program was made possible thanks to the support of the Thiès Cultural Center and the Urban Cultures Fund. Presented as a catalyst for the development of the local urban music scene, it aims to facilitate access to professional training for young people who wish to pursue a career as a DJ but who do not always have the necessary resources.
For DJ Lass, this initiative addresses a real need in the railway capital. "What motivated me to start this training is that I'm the only DJ working in urban culture in Thiès," he explains. Keen to popularize this discipline and contribute to its development, he decided to pass on his expertise to young aspiring DJs.
The results of the first edition were already encouraging. Seven DJs were trained, three of whom are currently working in radio. For this second edition, the number of participants has increased to 13, with the addition of two women.
The director of the Thiès cultural center, Mactar Sidy Mbaye, welcomed the initiative and congratulated DJ Lass for his commitment and dedication to the development of urban culture in the region.
Beyond training, the initiator is appealing to the authorities, particularly the Ministry of Culture, to increase their financial and material support. He believes that urban culture represents a sector capable of generating jobs and offering opportunities for young people.
Through this initiative, DJ Lass intends to contribute to the structuring of the urban scene in Thiès and to make DJing a real professional opportunity for young people.
