In traditional Mandinka society, the art of song holds no secrets for the djelis —or griots—masters of the spoken word and custodians of an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation. They are divided into several prominent families, among them the Diabaté, descended from an illustrious lineage of West African griots. It is within this tradition that the Guinean legend of Sékouba "Bambino" Diabaté and his daughter Iama unfolds, brilliantly illustrating this principle through music and the arts.

After conquering the world with his captivating voice and acclaimed musical performances, the maestro now sees his daughter Iama combine business with pleasure with a sublime stage appearance. Blessed with a harmonious timbre and undeniable talent, Iama is establishing herself as a worthy successor to her father.

With her recently released track "N'nanifa," Iama confirms this artistic lineage in synergy with her father, a testament to the passing of the torch through a work that carries the legacy of a family and an entire community. Together, they brilliantly perform a piece brimming with emotion and history, demonstrating the perfect harmony between two generations of griots. This close collaboration between father and daughter reflects a true passing of the torch, deeply rooted in Mandinka culture.

Filmed largely in Guinea, the video offers a minimalist setting amidst magnificent landscapes. Much more than a simple music video, this work showcases the elegance and appeal of Guinea as a destination, enhanced by aerial shots and a rich cultural mosaic.

A masterpiece to discover on Seneweb.
