Diamniadio : l’ONU change le décor
“Phew, finally, we’re home.” The words of the Ambassador of the Republic of Congo, Jean-Luc Aka-Evy, sum up the change of scenery for the United Nations in Senegal. For the first time, the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the UN Charter was held this Friday, October 23, in the new United Nations House in Diamniadio. The newspaper Le Quotidien highlights the significance of this milestone, which marks a new phase in the establishment of UN agencies within this complex built by the Senegalese government.

Present at the ceremony, the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, reaffirmed Senegal's commitment to multilateralism. He recalled that this House reflects the country's attachment to the ideals of peace, justice, and prosperity championed by the UN. He also assured that the government would support the relocation of the agencies and their staff to Diamniadio.

Held under the theme "The UN and Digital Technology: Accelerating Employment and Youth Empowerment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," the meeting emphasized the job opportunities offered by new technologies and the need for responsible use of AI. Cheikh Niang, quoted in the Avenir Communication group's newspaper, reiterated the New Deal technology initiative's objective of creating 350,000 jobs and increasing the digital sector's contribution to 15% of GDP by 2034. He stated that "the problem lies more in the way AI is used than in the tool itself."
