Dérapage des comptes publics à 7,6 % : Aïssata Tall Sall épingle l'explosion du déficit budgétaire hors normes de l'UEMOA
Senegal's spiraling budget deficit is a key target of criticism from the opposition. Speaking about the 2026 supplementary budget law, Aïssata Tall Sall, president of the Takku Wallu Sénégal parliamentary group, warned of a marked deterioration in the country's macroeconomic balances.
While the public deficit was initially projected at 3.4%, the new budget forecasts show a rate now standing at 7.6%. This proportion is drastically higher than the maximum threshold of 3% tolerated under the multilateral convergence criteria of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
“We’re already at a staggering 7.6%,” the former minister warned on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Alliance for the Republic (APR). According to the parliamentary leader, this dizzying surge reflects the severity of the state’s financial difficulties and seriously undermines the credibility of the public finance recovery plan.
