Les exportations sénégalaises plongent : Le pétrole et le gaz en perte de vitesse, l’or sauve la mise
Senegalese exports, which had been on a strong upward trend, have taken a sharp decline. In September 2026, they totaled 566 billion CFA francs, compared to 711.1 billion CFA francs in August, representing a decrease of 20.4%. The National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) has explained the reasons for this poor performance.
In its monthly foreign trade bulletin, it notably mentions the decline in crude oil exports, which fell from 206.7 billion FCFA in August to 123.3 billion FCFA in September. Sales of liquefied natural gas also decreased, dropping from 28.4 billion FCFA to 17.3 billion FCFA over the same period. The same trend was observed for phosphates, whose exports plummeted to 200 million FCFA, compared to 6.7 billion FCFA in August.
Gold is holding its own with a strong upward trend.
Gold exports, meanwhile, stood out. They increased to 127.5 billion FCFA in September, compared to 109.8 billion FCFA in August. Canned goods and hydraulic cement also performed well.
Compared to September 2025, exports increased by 34.5%. Their cumulative total at the end of September 2026 reached 5,103.5 billion FCFA, compared to 4,097.6 billion FCFA for the same period in 2025, representing an increase of 24.6%.
As for goods imports, they amounted to 595.6 billion FCFA in September. They stood at 551.1 billion FCFA the previous month, representing an increase of 8.1%. This rise is due, among other things, to the increase in crude oil purchases, which reached 53 billion FCFA, whereas they were virtually non-existent in August.
An overall trade surplus
Compared to September 2025, imports show an increase of 18.5%. Their cumulative total at the end of September 2026 reached 5,047.4 billion FCFA, compared to 5,224.5 billion FCFA for the same period in 2025, representing a decrease of 3.4%.
In September 2026, the trade balance stood at -29.5 billion FCFA, compared to +160 billion the previous month. However, the cumulative balance at the end of September 2026 showed a surplus of +56 billion FCFA, compared to a deficit of 1,127 billion FCFA for the same period in 2025.
