BFEM 2026: Nearly 196,000 candidates are taking the exam across Senegal

The Brevet de fin d'études moyennes (BFEM) exams kick off this Tuesday, July 14, 2026. For this session, nearly 196,000 candidates are expected at examination centers across the country.

According to statistics from the Directorate of Examinations and Competitions (DEXCO) of the Ministry of National Education, 195,634 candidates are registered. This figure represents an increase of 3,809 candidates compared to 2025, confirming the continued growth in numbers in recent years.

These candidates are spread across the country's 16 academies. Thiès leads with 34,874 registered candidates, followed by Pikine-Guédiawaye (27,363), Dakar (16,072), Rufisque (14,452), Saint-Louis (13,714), and Fatick (13,660). At the other end of the spectrum are Kaffrine (3,818) and Kédougou (1,978).

Another striking fact this year is the increased participation of girls in the BFEM. Statistics reveal a strong presence of girls, with 114,891 compared to 80,743 boys.

To ensure the smooth running of the exams, the Ministry of National Education mobilized a significant logistical and human resources force. A total of 1,224 examination centers were opened, with 1,392 jury presidents, over 13,000 invigilators, 6,960 center secretaries, and 6,522 exam rooms.

Special attention is also given to the 266 candidates with special educational needs, including the transcription of subjects into braille for the blind, the enlargement of characters for the visually impaired and other accommodations adapted to situations of disability.

Furthermore, DEXCO announced that 7,823 registered candidates without civil status documents will be subject to administrative monitoring in accordance with the procedures in force.

The procedures for organizing the examination, from the installation of the jury presidents to the publication of the results, have been harmonized to ensure a uniform conduct of the tests throughout the territory.
