Weather forecast: Thunderstorms and rain expected across Senegal by the weekend

The National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) has published its bulletin no. 159, covering the period from Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 12:00 PM to Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 00:00 AM. The short-term forecast predicts progressive rain and thunderstorm instability across the entire national territory.

During the first 24 hours, thunderstorms and rain will initially affect the southern regions, particularly Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, and Tambacounda. These rainy conditions will then move towards the south-central areas, impacting Kaolack, Fatick, Kaffrine, and the areas extending towards Tambacounda. Along the Petite Côte, including Thiès, Mbour, and Dakar, the sky will remain partly cloudy, while the rest of the country will experience sunny to partly cloudy weather.

Friday will see an intensification of the weather phenomenon, with conditions significantly more favorable for severe weather. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms will then affect almost the entire territory of Senegal.

However, on Saturday, these rainy events will be less pronounced and will be concentrated mainly in the south and center of the country, leaving the northern and eastern regions under cloud cover.

In terms of temperatures and general atmospheric conditions, it will feel very hot inland, particularly in the northern and central regions. Visibility will generally remain good across the country, while winds will blow from the southwest to west with light to moderate intensity.
