Fleuve Gambie : forte montée des eaux à Kédougou, mais la vigilance reste au vert
The rising waters continue on the Gambia River in Kédougou. According to the daily hydrological bulletin published this Friday, August 7, by the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, the river level has recorded a dramatic rise of 88 centimeters in just 24 hours, going from 1.98 meters to 2.86 meters.
Despite this rapid increase, the authorities are trying to reassure the public. The Kédougou hydrometric station remains well below its alert level of 7 meters, with a margin of 4.14 meters. The vigilance level is therefore maintained at green, indicating that no particular threat is currently reported.
Unlike Kédougou, most other stations in the Gambia River basin show a downward trend. In Mako, the water level has fallen by 34 centimeters, while decreases have also been observed in Simenti (-22 cm), Gouloumbou (-8 cm), Diaguiri (-4 cm) and Goumbayel (-16 cm).
The available data also reveal that water levels remain lower than those recorded at the same time in 2025 at most of the monitored stations, reflecting an overall year-on-year downward trend.
Hydrological services are nevertheless urging residents living along the river to remain vigilant. With the rainy season continuing, water levels will continue to be monitored daily to detect any rises that could change the alert level.
