Fleuve Sénégal : Baisse généralisée, la crue s'effondre sur tout le bassin
The water level has now receded across the board. The Senegal River is falling at all stations.
The reassuring figure: Saint-Louis's water level is 1.05 m on the gauge this morning, compared to 1.55 m projected for the same date in 2025. The city is 70 cm below the alert threshold of 1.75 m.
Upstream data confirms the collapse of the floodwaters. In Matam, the water level has dropped by 32 cm in 24 hours, from 6.12 m yesterday to 5.80 m today, compared to a projected 6.75 m in 2025. In Bakel, the water level is at 6.45 m, down 6 cm, well below the 10 m alert threshold. On the tributaries, Kidira on the Falémé River is at 2.83 m, down 11 cm, and Oualia on the Bakoye River is at 2.38 m, down 10 cm.
In Podor with 4.41 m stationary and Richard-Toll with 2.99 m down 4 cm, all the levels remain below the alert thresholds.
At Diama, the dam's water level is 2.15 m upstream and it is releasing only 1321 m³/s, compared to 1866 m³/s last year. According to the DGPRE (Directorate General for Water Resources and Environment), the level is intentionally lowered to regulate the water flow and allow for rapid evacuation towards the river mouth without impacting Saint-Louis.
With the Manantali reservoir stable at 208.14 m, the 2026 flood season is coming to an end.
